Kolkata: A newlywed couple was found hanging inside their home in Nibadui Charkpara at Dattapukur in North 24 Parganas on Saturday evening. Police suspect it to be a case of suicide, though the reason behind the deaths remains unclear.The deceased were identified as Prosen Das, 27, and Geetashree Pal Das, 23. The couple had married for love around three months ago. According to Prosen’s family, there were no major family disputes or marital problems between the couple. Although the family had initially opposed the marriage, they later accepted Geetashree and the couple had been living together in Dattapukur.On Saturday, the couple did not open their room even after afternoon passed into evening. Family members and neighbours called out to them and tried contacting them on the phone, but received no response. They eventually broke open the door and found the couple hanging inside.Police reached the spot, recovered the bodies and sent them to Barasat Medical College for post-mortem examination.Meanwhile, Geetashree’s family has alleged that there were family disputes at her in-laws’ home and that the couple had been subjected to pressure. Police have started an investigation based on the allegations.
