JODHPUR: A three-year-old boy was run over by a Scorpio SUV in front of his mother in Sanchore town of Jalore district on Friday morning. The child was dragged for around 10 feet by the vehicle before the driver fled the spot.The deceased was identified as Jempa, 3, the only son of Indra Colony resident Shaitan Singh. According to Singh, he and his wife, Aarti Devi, run a cosmetic shop near the main bus stand, around a kilometre from their home.Their son would accompany them to the shop, while their two daughters went to school. The incident took place at around 9am.Aarti had brought Jempa to the shop after sending her two daughters to school. While the couple were busy with work, the child was playing inside the shop. He suddenly ran out onto the road.Seeing her son on the road, Aarti rushed after him. However, before she could reach him, a Scorpio coming from the direction of the bus stand hit the child and allegedly dragged him for around 10 feet.The accident took place in front of Aarti, leaving her in shock. Meanwhile, Jempa’s grandmother, Ansi Devi, who runs a bangle shop nearby, rushed to the spot and pulled the child out from underneath the vehicle.The family rushed the critically injured child to the district hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.The Scorpio driver fled the scene immediately after the accident. The incident was captured on a CCTV camera installed at a nearby shop.Police said they have seized the Scorpio and are searching for the driver, who is absconding.
