Kolkata: A Calcutta High Court bench on Friday recused itself from hearing pleas filed by Tulu Mondal. Justice Saugata Bhattacharyya recused himself as another criminal revision application involving the case was pending before another court.In a related development, special public prosecutor Bivas Chattopadhyay on Thursday drew parallels with the Telgi scam in a Suri court, alleging that sophisticated counterfeit Duplicate Carbon Receipt (DCR) books were used to perpetrate a major revenue fraud in Birbhum’s stone-trading sector, allegedly masterminded by absconding accused Mondal.The court granted five days’ police custody of land reforms department employee Biswajit Saha and Kowsar Ali, Mondal’s manager. Police alleged Saha supplied genuine DCR books to Mondal’s associates, who later allegedly copied serial numbers, stamps and layouts to produce high-quality counterfeit receipts.
