Lucknow: A 70-year-old woman was allegedly found dead in a vacant plot in a village under Mohanlalganj police station late Wednesday, prompting police to detain three people, including relatives of the deceased, for questioning.The body of woman was found in the vacant plot after which local residents informed the police. Some villagers raised suspicion that she may have been sexually assaulted before being killed. Police, however, said the allegation had not been established and that the exact circumstances surrounding her death would be clear only after the postmortem and forensic examination.DCP South Mohd Mushtaq said the woman had been sitting with some people when an altercation broke out. Alcohol was reportedly being consumed at the spot. The dispute escalated into a physical fight, during which the woman sustained injuries and died, the officer said.Police teams, including senior officers, reached the spot after receiving information. A forensic team examined the scene and collected evidence. Investigators have also obtained CCTV footage from the area and are examining it to reconstruct the sequence of events.Police have detained three suspects, who are reportedly relatives of the woman, including her nephews. They are being questioned about who was present at the spot and what led to the woman’s death.The body has been sent for post-mortem examination. Police said the report would help establish the cause of death and whether the woman had suffered any sexual assault or other injuries.
