Liquor smuggling gang busted in Kashi; 2 arrested

Varanasi: The Cantt police in Varanasi busted a liquor smuggling gang operating from a rented house in Taktakpur Anoula area on Thursday.Two key operators of the gang– Gaurav Sahni (22) and Arvind Sahani (35)– both residents of Begusarai district in Bihar were arrested, and a large stock of illicit liquor was seized.According to ACP (Cantt) Apoorv Pandey, the action followed specific inputs about suspicious activities and illegal stocking of liquor at the location. Acting on the tip-off, Inspector Shivakant Mishra and his team conducted a raid at the house. During the search, police recovered 742 bottles of various brands of Indian-made foreign liquor (IMFL) worth Rs96,460 along with Rs30,000 cash.Preliminary investigation revealed that the gang procured liquor from licensed shops in Uttar Pradesh and stored it at the rented premises in Varanasi before smuggling the consignments to several districts in Bihar.Police said further investigation is underway to identify other members of the network and trace the supply chain involved in the interstate smuggling operation.
