KOLKATA: A city-based art auction house will open its second online art auction, The Autumn Palette, from Sept 21 to 23, bringing together rare and authenticated original works by some of India’s most celebrated modern and contemporary masters. Designed as a hybrid experience, the auction combines a curated physical preview in Kolkata with a global digital bidding platform for collectors worldwide.The physical showcase will be held at JW Marriott, Kolkata, on Sept 21 and 22, allowing collectors to view selected works before participating in the online sale through http://www.eyewithinart.com.“The Autumn Palette is aimed at both seasoned patrons and new collectors entering the world of Indian art. Among the key artists featured are Jamini Roy, Lalu Prasad Shaw, Ganesh Pyne and Sanjay Bhattacharya, each representing a distinct visual language within India’s artistic legacy,” said Gautam Das, director of Eye Within Art that was established in 1999 and is among India’s oldest e-commerce art platforms.Among the works on offer is red pastel horse by expression artist Sunil Das, created in 1959, shortly after he graduated from the Government College of Art & Craft. Ganesh Pyne’s depiction of a Baul singer in tempera reflects the mystic, wandering troubadours of Bengal. Also on offer are works of Prakash Karmakar and Dhirendranath Brahma in addition to those by Lalu Prasad Shaw and Sanjay Bhattacharya.“For experienced patrons, the auction offers access to masters like Jamini Roy whose contributions have shaped India’s modern and contemporary art narrative. There is an original print of English landscape artist Thomas Daniell who spent seven years in India after arriving in Kolkata in 1786. For new collectors, it provides a structured opportunity to begin acquiring original works by artists of lasting significance,” said Das.
