Kolkata: “An exam measures what you wrote on one day; it does not measure who you are or what you will become,” IIT-Kharagpur director Suman Chakraborty wrote in a social media post on Sunday dedicated to students whose mid-semester exams started on Monday.“An exam is indeed important, but it is not bigger than you. A grade is important, but it does not define you. Sometimes you will surprise yourself very positively, and sometimes, despite sincere preparation, an exam may simply not go your way. Please do not catastrophize such a moment. A poor exam is not a poor life. A disappointing grade is not a verdict on your ability,” Chakraborty said in a video.He said, “If you find yourself in a genuinely difficult situation and you have not intentionally harmed any person, please remember that you are not standing there alone. As your director, imagine my hand on your shoulder to protect you. I will stand there to protect your dignity, to ensure fairness, and to help you find a way forward positively.”Chakraborty urged students to trust their preparation, breathe and take one question at a time, reminding them of their efforts and strength to earn a place at IIT-Kharagpur. “Give it your honest best. That is all I ask, and it is more than enough,” he wrote.
