Gohana (Sonipat): Six people travelling in a second-hand bulletproof Scorpio escaped unhurt after eight-nine men in two vehicles allegedly intercepted their vehicle and opened fire near Nagar village on Sonipat Road on Monday, police said.Gohana DCP Jitender Gehlot said during questioning, Barota resident Ravinder told police that the Scorpio in which they had travelled to court was bulletproof. Ravinder reportedly said his relative Rishi had bought the second-hand vehicle from someone a few days ago and, apprehending a major incident, they decided to travel to court in it.Police said the vehicle bore two bullet impact marks on the window next to the driver’s seat. Another bullet struck and pierced the rear windshield. Despite the firing, none of the six occupants was injured.According to police, Ravinder was returning with his brother and two relatives after appearing as witnesses in a land dispute case. The assailants allegedly surrounded their vehicle, with one vehicle blocking its path, before firing around eight to nine rounds and fleeing.Gohana City police station SHO inspector Subhash said the vehicle had undergone aftermarket modifications that prevented bullets from piercing the windshield, but the side windows of the rear seat were not bulletproof and were penetrated by bullets.Police spokesperson ASI Ravinder Singh said the incident took place near Nagar village and no one was injured.Sonipat commissioner of police Mamta Singh said the incident appeared to stem from a land dispute between the two sides and was not linked to any gang. Five police teams have been formed to identify and apprehend the suspects.The dispute allegedly concerns 4-5 acres of land and has continued for nearly one-and-a-half years.A police team inspected the spot and a forensic team collected samples. Police are examining CCTV footage and recording statements to identify the suspects and trace the vehicles used in the attack.DCP Gehlot said a case had been registered against 18 persons, six of whom have been named. He said police conducted a raid after identifying a location linked to the accused, but they fled, leaving behind a vehicle. No arrests have been made so far.
