Mumbai: Sahar police registered an FIR after Narayan Joshi (48), a photographer from Vikhroli, reported that an unidentified man allegedly stole a khaki envelope containing Indian and UK currency worth Rs 32,800 from his relative during a security check at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport’s T2 on Aug 10. Joshi approached police on Sept 17.Joshi approached Sahar police after his brother-in-law, Nilesh Yashwant Fatarpekar (50), asked him to lodge a complaint over a missing cash envelope. Fatarpekar, an event management professional from Porvorim, Goa, could not find the envelope while flying from London to Goa via Mumbai. Police have sought airport CCTV footage to trace a passenger, aged about 55 to 60, who was allegedly seen taking the envelope, a Sahar officer said.Fatarpekar allegedly lost an envelope containing cash worth Rs 32,800 during security screening at Mumbai airport on Sept 4, Joshi told TOI. Fatarpekar had arrived from London aboard Air India flight AI128 at 3am and was scheduled to take a connecting flight AI603 to Goa. At 4.10am, he placed the envelope and other belongings in a screening tray. He left for Goa after failing to find the envelope, which contained 50 Rs 500 notes and three £20 notes.After receiving a call from Fatarpekar, Joshi visited Mumbai Airport on Sept 17 to inquire. He said Sept 4 CCTV footage showed a Goa-bound passenger on his brother-in-law’s flight picking up the cash envelope, showing it to airport security and, after receiving no response, pocketing it and leaving.Joshi approached the police after he failed to find the envelope in the lost-and-found department.
