Shillong: A total of 127 candidates received appointment letters at the 20th Rozgar Mela held at the State Convention Centre here on Saturday.The event was organised by the office of the chief commissioner of income tax, Shillong.The newly appointed employees will join various govt departments and organisations, including the Income Tax Department, Indian Railways, India Post and other sectors.Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing the event via video conference, said the young people joining govt service had an “important role” to play in achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat and Atmanirbhar Bharat by 2047.He urged the new recruits to make decisions with citizens and their aspirations at the centre of their work.Calling on the newly appointed employees to follow the principle of “Nagarik Devo Bhava”, Modi said service to citizens was service to the nation.The PM also highlighted what he described as India’s growing employment and entrepreneurship ecosystem, including the expansion of the startup ecosystem in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities and the increasing participation of women and youth in entrepreneurship. He also referred to initiatives related to skill development, apprenticeships and employment generation.He expressed confidence that the new recruits would discharge their responsibilities with “dedication, sensitivity, efficiency and honesty”.Modi also stressed the importance of transparent and accessible recruitment processes, including examinations in regional languages and facilities such as choice of examination centres.Union minister of state for external affairs Pabitra Margherita, who was present in Shillong, said the northeast had “immense potential”.“Improved connectivity and infrastructure are creating an ecosystem where young people can study, work, innovate and build their futures within the region,” he said.Margherita said the development of the northeast was integral to the development of the nation and called on the newly appointed youth to contribute to India’s future with “dedication, integrity and a strong sense of public service”.
