Chennai: Police arrested a 24-year-old man for smuggling liquor from Puducherry to Chennai in an SUV, on Wednesday. The arrest followed a surveillance operation conducted by a team from the CMBT police station on April 28 near the Koyambedu metro railway station. Acting on a tip-off, police attempted to stop a suspicious car for inspection. The occupants refused to halt the car and drove a short distance before abandoning the vehicle and fleeing. On searching the car, police found 24 bottles of liquor, suspected to have been transported illegally from Puducherry. After further investigation, police traced and arrested Naveen, 24, of Sholinghur.Police seized the liquor bottles and the car. Naveen has been remanded in judicial custody.
