Water supply remains disrupted in parts of Balewadi as pipeline repair continues
A water pipeline laid to improve water supply in Baner, Pashan and Sus was breached near the Pancard subway on Friday

Pune: Water supply disruptions in parts of Balewadi, such as Mohannagar, persisted on Saturday as the civic administration continued to repair a water pipeline breach the previous day.Officials from PMC’s water supply department said the supply to the line was stopped on Friday to assist repairs. The teams carried out technical inspections, following which a decision was taken to replace the damaged part. The supply in Balewadi was uninterrupted except in areas around Mohannagar.Local sources, however, said that the lack of coordination among govt agencies led to damage to the pipeline and significant loss of water on Friday. The damage was significant and led to a brief disruption to vehicular traffic, sources said.An official from PMC said, “The damaged line was a branch supply coming from SNDT, and only a limited area had been dependent on it for daily water. The damage was caused by works taken up by MNGL. We have asked them to inspect other locations where digging works were underway to avoid any further instances of damages to the pipeline.”Rahul More, a resident of Balewadi, said the administration should take serious note of the incident and take adequate measures to avoid such damage leading to hardships for residents. “The pipeline that developed a snag was a key line and was laid recently. The administration should hold a third-party audit of the pipeline infrastructure in Baner-Balewadi areas,” he said.
