Ludhiana: The body of an unidentified woman, believed to be around 30 years old, was found in a vacant plot near Lalton bus stand on Pakhowal Road Saturday, prompting a murder investigation.Passers-by spotted the blood-soaked body lying in a secluded area and alerted the police. A police team reached the spot, took the body into custody and shifted it to a govt hospital mortuary for post-mortem.Police said the woman appeared to have sustained multiple injuries from a sharp-edged weapon on her neck and other parts of the body. She was dressed in a T-shirt and lower.Lalton police post in-charge ASI Saraj Kumar said efforts were under way to establish the woman’s identity. Investigators are examining CCTV footage from the surrounding area to trace her movements and identify those involved.Sadar police station SHO Jagdev Singh said the case prima facie appeared to be murder, though the exact cause of death would be established after the post-mortem. He added that a case would be registered once the victim was identified.Police sources said investigators were pursuing several leads and were also probing whether the woman had been subjected to sexual assault before the suspected murder.
