SONIPAT: A tragic road accident in Sonipat, Haryana, has claimed the life of a young woman after a pickup vehicle allegedly rammed into a scooter carrying two sisters beneath the Kami Road flyover.The younger sister, identified as Vanshika, died from her injuries, while her elder sister Diksha sustained serious injuries and is undergoing treatment at Max Super Speciality Hospital, Shalimar Bagh, Delhi.Police have arrested the pickup driver and initiated further investigation into the accident.According to the family and police, both sisters, Diksha and Vanshika, lived with their family in Mayur Vihar, Gali No. 5, Sonipat.Besides the two sisters, the family also has a brother and another sister.Vanshika had gone to see her elder sister Diksha’s college for the first time. Diksha studies at a private college.According to the family, Vanshika was extremely happy after visiting the college and had told them that she would also seek admission to the same college.After visiting the college, the two sisters were returning home on a scooter. Diksha was riding the scooter, while Vanshika was seated behind her.When the sisters reached the area beneath the Kami Road flyover, a pickup vehicle allegedly travelling at high speed collided with their scooter.The impact was so severe that the scooter was badly damaged and both sisters were thrown onto the road, suffering serious injuries.Soon after the accident, a crowd of passers-by and local residents gathered at the spot. During this time, Vijay Kaushik, a Sonipat resident, was passing through the area.On seeing the injured sisters lying on the road, he took both of them to the Civil Hospital in his car.According to Vijay, Vanshika’s condition deteriorated while she was being taken to the hospital and she died on the way. Diksha, meanwhile, was in a critical condition.After receiving initial treatment, she was referred to Max Super Speciality Hospital, Shalimar Bagh, Delhi, where her treatment is continuing.Following the accident, the pickup driver allegedly attempted to flee from the scene. However, people present at the spot managed to catch him and handed him over to the police.Some local residents alleged that the driver might have been under the influence of alcohol. The crowd also reportedly assaulted him before handing him over to the authorities.Sadar police station SHO Sukhbir said that the pickup driver has been arrested. After the post-mortem examination, Vanshika’s body was handed over to her family. Further investigation into the case is underway.Police said they are examining the circumstances surrounding the accident, the role of the pickup driver and other facts connected with the incident.Further action will be taken on the basis of the investigation and statements recorded from the family and other witnesses.For Vanshika’s family, the incident has been particularly devastating. She had left home with her elder sister to see the college where she hoped to pursue her studies and had reportedly expressed her desire to seek admission there.However, while returning home from the college, the sisters met with the fatal road accident.Vanshika lost her life, while her elder sister Diksha remains seriously injured and is receiving treatment in Delhi
