Mumbai: A Bandra couple has been searching for their 76-year-old “adopted uncle”, Ramnarayan Chaudhary, who went missing on Sept 15. Chaudhary left the home he shared with the couple in J J Colony, Bandra West, for an evening walk at 5.30 pm, but did not return. He was wearing dark blue trousers, a red-and-white shirt, sandals and a golden watch on that day.Bandra police have registered an abduction and kidnapping case and are trying to trace him.Sahid Shaikh, a tailor, and his wife Rehana, a homemaker, both 40 years old, have been trying to trace Choudhary by carrying his photographs in Bandra, asking people if they had seen him.Their son, Rehan Shaikh, said Chaudhary had lived with the family for 25 years and had no health or memory problems. Rehan said Chaudhary went for an evening walk every day. “On Tuesday, as was his routine, my grandfather (Choudhary) stepped out saying he would return in a while, but he did not,” Rehan told TOI.Bandra police have registered a kidnapping case following a Bombay High Court order on receiving a missing person complaint from Shahid, who suspected Chaudhary might have been abducted.Sahid and Rehana told the police that Chaudhary had lived with them for 25 years and he had no relatives and had worked as a watchman before retiring.“Chaudhary left their home at 5.30 pm on Tuesday, saying he would return in half an hour as usual. The couple searched for him before approaching the police,” said a Bandra police officer. An officer said the police were following the standard operating procedure by gathering information about missing people across the city. They had also sought details from hospital morgues and about injured people matching Chaudhary’s description. Police were examining local CCTV footage to trace him.“My grandfather does not have friends and whenever he steps out he returns within 30 minutes. He had been happy living with us for 25 years,” said Rehan.
