Rajkot: Morbi City A Division police have arrested a 53-year-old man and his 24-year-old son for allegedly burgling Radhakrishna Jewellers on Sardar Road and stealing gold and silver ornaments worth Rs 17.24 lakh.Police identified the accused as Karim Manek and his son Mustak Manek, residents of Shreeji Park on Vavdi Road in Morbi. The stolen jewellery and silver scrap, along with a motorcycle allegedly used in the crime, were recovered from their house, police said.Jewellery shop owner Deepak Mandaliya, who has been running the store for around 25 years, had closed the shop at about 2pm on Sep 3 before leaving for Rajkot for the Satam-Aatham festival. When he reopened the shop on the morning of Sep 7, he found articles scattered inside.During inspection, Mandaliya noticed a large opening in the rear wall of the shop. The switch connected to the CCTV cameras had also been turned off. Police examined the footage and found that an unidentified person had allegedly broken through the wall and entered the shop at around 2.45am on Sep 5.The burglar fled with around 24 grams of gold ornaments, including pendants and beads, valued at Rs 2.74 lakh. Around 6.25kg of silver ornaments worth Rs 12.50 lakh and nearly 1.5kg of old silver scrap valued at Rs 2 lakh were also stolen.A case was registered at Morbi City A Division police station under Sections 305(A) and 331(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).Police inspector Y B Jadeja said several teams were formed to investigate the burglary. Investigators examined footage from around 250 CCTV cameras installed near the crime scene, along with Netram CCTV footage from across Morbi city. Information gathered from human sources also helped the investigation, police said.Based on a tip-off about the alleged involvement of Karim and Mustak Manek, police searched their house. The stolen items were found concealed in a water tank on the ground floor, police said.
