Kolkata: An intense thunderstorm lashed the city for around two hours on Wednesday evening, flooding various areas. The nor’wester pulled the mercury down by six degrees. Eight flights, including two international flights, were diverted and several arrivals and departures were delayed.The Met office did not rule out more spells of rain on Thursday. Some of the worst waterlogged areas included Dum Dum, Belgachhia, Ultadanga, Maniktala, Beleghata, C R Avenue, College Street, Amherst Street, Thanthania, Bidhan Sarani, Camac Street, Theatre Road, Harish Mukherjee Road, Southern Avenue, Ballygunge, Lake Gardens, Golf Green, Kalighat, Tollygunge, Behala and areas off EM Bypass. Despite KMC using heavy-duty pumps, several streets remained flooded. Flight operations were suspended between 8.20 pm and 8.45 pm and landings held up for longer. Several flights, including one from Pune, hovered over the city for over an hour. tnn
