2,291 CCTV cameras in Punjab’s border belt to boost security: DGP

Chandigarh: Punjab Police have installed 2,291 CCTV cameras at 585 locations along the border belt to strengthen surveillance and curb cross-border crime, DGP Gaurav Yadav said on Wednesday. He said the cameras form part of a “second line of defence” under the ‘Gangstran Te Vaar’ campaign, aimed at building a technology-driven security grid across vulnerable villages and transit routes.A total of 41 police stations in border districts have also been brought under CCTV coverage, creating an integrated monitoring system, he added. The DGP said anti-drone vigilance has been intensified in districts that have witnessed repeated drops of arms and narcotics. He emphasised that the strategy focuses on dismantling the entire crime network, from cross-border supply to last-mile delivery, and ensuring early detection and swift response.
