Large technology companies, including Palantir Technologies, Nvidia and Booz Allen Hamilton, could restrict or cease to use advanced AI models unless Anthropic and OpenAI guarantee not to misuse their intellectual property, the Information reported on Monday.Anthropic faced customer pushback after a June policy change for its Fable model gave the company rights to retain usage logs for 30 days to guard against “complex and novel attacks,” according to the report. OpenAI has faced similar scrutiny amid claims it may have trained models on user data to help solve a maths problem, the report said.Palantir has pressed Anthropic to provide irrevocable zero-data-retention guarantees before making its models available through Palantir’s software, the report said. Nvidia limits Anthropic’s use to less sensitive tasks and relies on its own Nemotron models for internal work, while Booz Allen has barred employees from using Anthropic’s commercial model for cybersecurity work, the report said. Both AI labs say they do not train on customer data unless firms opt in, though they collect anonymised metadata to improve products, the report added.
