New Delhi: New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has advised residents of 145 Type-I quarters in eight residential blocks at Valmiki Sadan on Mandir Marg to vacate the premises as a precautionary measure after a structural assessment found the buildings unsafe for habitation.According to NDMC, a comprehensive study by its Civil Engineering Department found the identified blocks to be structurally unsafe and beyond economical repair. Valmiki Sadan is known as the site where Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched Swachh Bharat Mission.The affected quarters are spread across eight blocks. Four three-storey blocks, built in 1965-66, comprise quarters G-25 to G-51, F-25 to F-51 and S-25 to S-51, with a total of 81 units. Four four-storey blocks, constructed in 1985-86, comprise 64 quarters.“The municipal housing department has informed the allottees. In view of the deteriorated structural condition of these buildings and the potential risk to occupants, NDMC has urged all residents concerned to vacate the identified quarters at the earliest and extend full cooperation to the authorities during the evacuation process,” NDMC officials said.The civic body said the advisory had been issued purely as a preventive measure, with residents’ safety being the top priority.“We appeal to all affected occupants to cooperate with the administration so that timely action can be taken,” the council said.For rehabilitation, NDMC has announced a one-time special bidding drive through e-Awas portal. The bidding window will remain open from Sept 16 to Sept 20.In July 2025, NDMC initiated action against several residential buildings over 50 years old in Lutyens’ Delhi, resulting in the evacuation of housing complexes at Pandara Park and Prithviraj Lane. Pending flats at Pandara Park were vacated recently. At the time, notices were also issued to residents of Palika Dham.
