NOIDA: A portion of the left lane of Noida Elevated Road caved in near Vishwa Bharti Public School in Sector 28 on Tuesday, creating a 10x5x3-foot pothole and triggering heavy traffic tailbacks during peak hours.Aman Chaudhury, a resident of Greater Noida west, said that on Tuesday 10am he was going to his office in Sector 15 thorough elevated road. “As I reached near the Vishwa Bharti Public School, I spotted a pothole on the left lane of the road. Someone had placed a tree branch in the pothole to alert and guide motorists. I made a small video of the incident and shared it on social media,” he said.Kapil Singh, senior manager, Noida Authority’s Work Circle 2, said the incident was reported by passersby around 11am. “Soon, a team of Noida Authority officials reached the spot to carry out repair and restoration work. The incident took place on the ramp descending towards Sector 18,” he said.Singh said prima facie, water and sewage pipelines appeared to be running beneath the loop. “It appears there was a leakage in the water pipeline, due to which the soil beneath the area was washed away, leading to a visible pothole. The team excavated the area around the pothole to start the repair work,” he said.Noida Authority and traffic police swung into action and started the repair works. One lane of the elevated road was restricted for traffic movement. Officials said the stretch has been repaired by the evening, after which a bitumen coating would be laid at night.The 4.8km road was constructed at a cost of Rs 480 crore and was opened to the public in 2017. The elevated road is a key arterial route designed to ease congestion between Sectors like 18, 23, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, and 60,61,62. Additionally, many individuals from Indirapuram and Vaishali in Ghaziabad use this road to commute between Noida and Delhi via the DND Flyway and vice versa.
