Chandigarh: Haryana Police have prepared a database of 45,207 active criminals and verified the current status of 26,026 (57.57%) of them as part of an intelligence-led crime monitoring exercise aimed at identifying potential threats before they translate into organised crime.The verification, carried out under the RJSF pattern, covers criminals’ present whereabouts, activities, criminal contacts and networks. The police have been directed to continuously update the database and take preventive action wherever suspicious activity is detected.Of those verified so far, 7,425 were found at their registered addresses, 1,612 were in jail and 375 had died. Police said verification of the remaining 19,137 criminals is being pursued on priority.DGP Ajay Singhal directed officers to make policing increasingly intelligence-based, technology-enabled and data-driven. “Our objective is not merely to maintain records of criminals, but to use the available data to prevent crime before it occurs,” he said.The exercise also aims to identify criminals who may be active across district boundaries and map their links with other members of criminal networks. Police said accurate information on offenders’ current status and activities would help field units intervene before a crime takes place, rather than merely investigate it after the event.Technology is being integrated into the monitoring system, with FRS data of 6,762 criminals uploaded so far. Officials said this would strengthen identification and surveillance by linking field-level verification with digital and intelligence inputs.ADGP (law and order) Sanjay Kumar said the model was initially introduced in crime-sensitive districts, including Rohtak, Jhajjar, Sonipat and Faridabad, for systematic profiling and surveillance of criminals. Based on that experience, the system is now being extended across the state, he said.Several districts have recorded high verification rates. Rohtak, Jhajjar and Faridabad have completed 100% verification, while Hisar has reached 99.11%, Sonipat 93.13% and Sirsa 81.97%. Kaithal has verified 68.43% of the data, Jind 62.82% and Fatehabad 57.49%.Police said the database would also improve inter-district intelligence sharing, particularly as criminal networks increasingly operate beyond district boundaries. The stated focus is to track emerging networks, identify suspicious movements and enable timely preventive action.
