Telangana high court defers plea by actress in marriage fraud case

Hyderabad: Telangana high court on Wednesday adjourned to May 4 the hearing of a petition filed by a Tollywood actress and Bigg Boss contestant seeking to quash a criminal case accusing her of duping an NRI businessman on the pretext of marriage. The matter came up before Justice J Sreenivas Rao. After initial arguments by the actress’s counsel, the assistant public prosecutor sought time. The NRI’s counsel also filed a vakalath, stating she was authorised to represent him.In her petition, the actress argued that the case, registered at the Central Crime Station on a complaint by the NRI’s father, at face value, does not disclose any cognisable offence. She denied any dishonest inducement, claiming that the NRI, to convince her and her family about the marriage, spent huge amounts on her as a bait, for which neither she nor her family are responsible.
