Jaipur: Police have registered an FIR after former Additional Solicitor General of India Rajdeepak Rastogi and others were allegedly threatened with death over a Supreme Court case seeking relocation of coaching institutes from the city’s Gopalpura Bypass area.The case concerns a petition filed by 10-B Scheme Vikas Samiti in the Supreme Court against the operation of coaching institutes in and around residential areas of Gopalpura Bypass and 10-B Scheme. The petitioners, including Rastogi, advocate Virendra Agrawal and Gopal Kumar Agrawal, general secretary of the ‘samiti’, have argued that coaching centres are running in areas where such commercial use is not permitted, and have raised concerns over traffic congestion, parking pressure and other civic problems caused by the concentration of institutes in the neighbourhood.The Supreme Court has questioned why institutes continue to operate in the area despite the availability of a dedicated Coaching Hub at Pratap Nagar, developed by Rajasthan Housing Board. Rastogi has appeared for the petitioners in the proceedings.The FIR was registered at Shipra Path police station Saturday on a complaint filed by Agrawal. The FIR said a man who identified himself as Raghuveer Singh Dagur and asked that the residents’ association withdraw the case before the next Supreme Court hearing. It was further threatened if they fail to do so, they will killed.Agrawal alleged that Dagur threatened to kill him, Virendra Agrawal and Rastogi if the case was not withdrawn.Meanwhile, Rajasthan High Court Lawyers’ Association, Jodhpur, has urged Director General of Police Rajeev Sharma to take strict and immediate action against those accused of threatening to kill former Additional Solicitor General and senior advocate Rastogi, advocate Agrawal and others in connection with a case pending before the Supreme Court. In a letter on Sunday the association condemned the incident as a serious threat to the dignity and safety of the legal fraternity, noting that an FIR has been registered at Shipra Path Police Station, Jaipur South, under Sections 308(4), 351(2) and 352 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. The association called for senior-level supervision of the investigation, prompt arrest of the accused and strict legal action, along with adequate security for Rajdeepak Rastogi and others associated with the case.
