Concerned over the misuse of antibiotics, the state govt is considering a state policy to promote their judicious use, additional chief secretary for medical health Amit Kumar Ghosh said at KGMU on Saturday. Speaking at the two-day Sepsis Update 2026 conference organised to mark World Sepsis Day, Ghosh said early diagnosis and timely treatment were critical in sepsis management. “The policy will help reducing the drug resistance that is happening due to no judicial use of these antibiotics,” he added. Prof Ved Prakash, head of KGMU’s department of pulmonary and critical care medicine, said appropriate antibiotic use was crucial in treating sepsis.

Of the fresh cases, one patient has been admitted to the hospital, while eight are in home isolation. At present, three H1N1 patients are undergoing treatment in hospitals and 79 are in home isolation. Chief medical officer Dr NB Singh said surveillance of active cases and monitoring of patients in home isolation are continuing. He advised people with flu-like symptoms, including fever, cough, sore throat or breathing difficulty, to get tested promptly.– A 37-year-old man was found dead on the railway tracks near Harauni railway station in the Banthra area of Lucknow on Saturday morning, with police suspecting suicide. The deceased was identified as Sonu, a resident of Khadhera village under Ajgain police station in Unnao district. According to the police, his body was found on the Lucknow-Kanpur railway section at around 6:45 am. GRP personnel reached the spot, took custody of the body and sent it for postmortem examination. Police said Sonu was unmarried and worked at a hotel in the Naka area of Lucknow, where he reportedly spent most of his time. His family members include his mother, Jagrana, elder brother Ramesh, elder sister Moni and younger sister Anku.
