TGMC flags quacks posing as doctors, drug violations in Nirmal

Hyderabad: During a day-long inspection of hospitals and clinics across Nirmal, five teams of the Telangana Medical Council (TGMC) found violations involving unregistered medical practitioners, the use of prescription drugs and misrepresentation of qualifications. The inspections covered facilities suspected of treating patients without valid medical registration. The teams found steroids, antibiotics and analgesics being administered at some centres, the council said.“We also came across instances where unqualified persons and optometrists were allegedly presenting themselves as ophthalmologists. In some facilities, allopathic medical services were reportedly being provided by practitioners holding non-allopathic qualifications such as BAMS and BHMS,” said Dr G Srinivas, a member of the TGMC.He added that the council was also investigating allegations that some hospitals were linked to quacks and were diverting patients in return for rebates or commissions. The TGMC said evidence was being collected for further legal action.
