Lucknow: Two days after a young couple from Hardoi was found hanging in a Chinhat guest house, fresh details have emerged about the circumstances leading to their deaths, including missing wedding funds and a kidnapping complaint filed by the girl’s family.Police said Amit Kumar (22) and Nargis alias Pooja (19) had left their homes on Aug 21 amid opposition to their relationship, stayed in a Lucknow guest house for nearly 18 days and reportedly married at an Arya Samaj temple before ending their lives. Amit’s family revealed that he had left home claiming he was travelling to Haridwar with friends ahead of his elder sister’s wedding scheduled next month. According to relatives, he was carrying nearly Rs 4 lakh earmarked for wedding preparations, including his savings and money borrowed from family members.The girl’s father, meanwhile, had lodged a kidnapping complaint against Amit at Harpalpur police station two days after the couple went missing. Family members said Amit and Nargis had known each other for around 10 months after he started working at a medical store opposite her house in Hardoi, and their friendship later turned into a relationship.Police recovered a suicide note, marriage certificate and mobile phone from the guest house room. In the note, the couple allegedly stated that they were taking the step voluntarily and requested that their families not be harassed.Investigators are examining the recovered evidence and the circumstances that led the couple to take the extreme step.
