CHANDIGARH: Two men out for a walk were shot dead while in Bhoma village under Batala police district on Monday night.Police suspect four assailants on motorbikes sprayed bullets on 40-year-old Kashmir Singh and 19-year-old Jugraj Singh, a local-level kabaddi player, between 9pm and 9.30 pm on the outskirts of the village. A third person, also named Jugraj Singh (18), who was accompanying the duo, was injured in the firing.He is undergoing treatment at a hospital.Police suspect Kashmir Singh, son of a former sarpanch of the village, was the target in the attack, likely due to some personal rivalry.Batala senior superintendent of police Mehtab Singh said Kashmir Singh was booked in an NDPS Act case by the erstwhile anti-drug Special Task Force in 2021, and came out of jail in 2023.The SSP ruled out any extortion angle or likelihood of any gang behind the double murder. “The families of the deceased did not report any extortion threats – neither before the incident nor after,” the SSP said.
