MUMBAI: A ticket checker with Western Railway suffered injuries after being assaulted by a ticketless passenger at Jogeshwari railway station on Wednesday.An FIR has been registered against the passenger, Ajay Dhivar, by Andheri Govt Railway Police (GRP).Ticket checker Ashish Ranjan Gupta, 33, was on duty at Jogeshwari station around 5pm and was checking tickets on a foot overbridge on platforms 3/4.When Dhivar was stopped and asked to produce his ticket, he said he did not have one.Gupta then asked him to pay a fine of Rs 500. But Dhivar had only Rs 100 on him.Gupta asked him to come along to the Railway Protection Force (RPF) office for prosecution. He put his hand on Dhivar’s shoulder to take him along, which infuriated Dhivar.According to the FIR, Dhivar pushed away Gupta and punched him in the face.Gupta’s spectacles broke and he suffered injuries under his eyes and started to bleed. He was also hurt on his face and eyebrows.As Dhivar tried to escape, Gupta chased and caught him. He was handed over to GRP and RPF personnel at Jogeshwari station. He was taken to the RPF office.Meanwhile, Gupta was rushed to Trauma Care Hospital where he was administered seven stitches under his eye.Police said Dhivar works in a bank and lives in Santacruz. He was issued a notice and released.
