Noida: A 39-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday for storing a large amount of firecrackers in a warehouse in Shahberi without a licence, police said. An officer said the seized firecrackers are worth around Rs 3 lakh.An FIR has been registered against Nitin Garg, the accused, under Section 288 (negligent conduct with respect to explosive substances) of BNS and sections 5 and 9B of the Explosives Act.Police said they received a tip-off about firecrackers being stored in a warehouse in Nagauri-1 Balaji Enclave. A team conducted a raid and found the accused at the spot. The firecrackers were seized as part of the investigation.The authorities are examining where Garg got the firecrackers from and the purpose for which they were being stored.Investigators are also verifying whether the premises met the prescribed safety requirements to store such a large quantity of firecrackers.The action comes ahead of the festive season, when demand for firecrackers typically increases and authorities step up checks against their unauthorised manufacture, storage and sale.The officer said further investigation is under way to ascertain whether there is a larger network involved in sourcing the firecrackers and also to determine how the illegal stock reached the premises.
