Milkfed hikes Verka milk procurement price by Rs 20/kg fat

Chandigarh: The Punjab govt has increased the milk procurement price for farmers associated with Milkfed (Verka) by Rs 20 per kg fat, effective May 1.An official spokesperson said the move aims to ensure better remuneration for dairy farmers, strengthen the rural economy and reinforce the cooperative dairy structure in the state.Nearly 2.5 lakh farmers linked to Milkfed will benefit immediately. The spokesperson said the hike is expected to improve the viability of dairy farming and may push other milk procurers to raise their rates as well.He added that the decision could benefit around 30 lakh milk producers in the state and lead to an estimated Rs 100 crore monthly infusion into Punjab’s rural economy.Milkfed Punjab is a leading milk cooperative in north India with a major share in packaged milk and dairy products.
