NEW DELHI: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast very heavy rainfall at isolated places over Odisha on Thursday, while several states are likely to see heavy rain, thunderstorms and lightning.Heavy rain is also expected in Assam, Meghalaya, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Kerala, parts of the Northeast and Uttarakhand.

IMD alert for Thursday

The IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places over Odisha on Thursday.Heavy rain is also likely in Assam, Meghalaya, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Kerala, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura and Uttarakhand.Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are likely over Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal.Parts of Bihar, Jharkhand, south interior Karnataka, Telangana, West Bengal and Sikkim may also see thunderstorms with gusty winds.

North India under rain alert

Uttarakhand is likely to receive heavy rainfall on Thursday, with widespread rain expected to continue through the weekend.Himachal Pradesh is also likely to see rainfall, with more widespread activity expected over the state later in the week.Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are also likely over Uttarakhand.

Central India forecast

Chhattisgarh and east Madhya Pradesh are likely to see widespread rainfall through the weekend.Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are possible over Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh on Thursday.

Bihar, Jharkhand and Odisha weather

IMD’s latest forecast for the next few days

Rainfall activity is expected to remain active across several parts of the country through the weekend.Odisha, the Northeast, Uttarakhand, Chhattisgarh and parts of south India are likely to see continued rain, with heavy to very heavy rainfall possible in some areas.The IMD has also forecast widespread rainfall over Himachal Pradesh from Friday and over west Madhya Pradesh from Saturday, while heavy rain is likely to continue over Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand and parts of the Northeast.
