Chandigarh: The UT administration Tuesday cleared encroachments spread over nearly 118 kanals (about 15 acres) in Kaimbwala village during a large-scale demolition drive aimed at removing unauthorised constructions in the Sukhna catchment area.The operation, which began at 9am, was carried out under the supervision of the SDM (central), with revenue, enforcement, police and civil defence teams participating in the exercise.Officials said the action targeted boundary walls and other encroachments in open areas adjoining farmhouses. Three JCB machines were deployed to dismantle unauthorized structures and restore possession of the encroached land.The drive was jointly undertaken by the district administration, Chandigarh Police and Civil Defence, with adequate police deployment, including women personnel, to maintain law and order. A DSP-rank officer supervised security arrangements on the ground.Revenue and enforcement teams, including tehsildars, naib tehsildars, kanungos and patwaris, were present at the site and assisted in the field-level operation. Civil Defence personnel also extended logistical support during the exercise.Officials said the demolition was conducted in a coordinated and orderly manner, with the SDM (Central) maintaining constant liaison with police and field staff throughout the operation.The office of the district magistrate reiterated its commitment to continuing action against illegal constructions and encroachments in environmentally sensitive zones to protect the Sukhna catchment area
