BATHINDA: The organized crime unit of the Calgary Police Service (CPS) has released images of 15 individual suspects as part of its ongoing investigations into an extortion series targeting the South Asian community.The photos have been released after a review and assessment by the CPS under Sec 13 (1)(a) of the Protection of Privacy Act or Sec 13 (1)(cc) of the Protection of Privacy Act.The 16 individuals have been charged for 56 charges but photos of 15 have been published at the website. Most of them have been released on bail.The CPS has stated it has documented 49 extortion-related incidents since April 2025, including 19 shootings.Investigators believe that the legal names associated with the individuals depicted may not correspond to the names by which they are known within their local communities, within Canada, or within their countries of origin, as per the information put by the CPS at its website.CPS has urged the members of the public to provide any information that may assist law enforcement in the continued investigations, including the identification of individuals believed to be involved in criminal networks associated with extortion-related violence.As per the local media reports most of these originally belong to Punjab and reached Canada on student visas. The reports states that association of some of them with Lawrance Bishnoi group may not be ruled out.CPS has mentioned about the charges against each individual.Ravjot Toor, 20, was charged following a traffic stop where evidence connected to a previous shooting was located. He was charged with possession of a prohibited/restricted firearm with ammunition, knowing possession of an unlicensed weapon, unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle, possession of a firearm obtained by crime, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a controlled substance (cocaine) and two Traffic Safety Act offences.Germanjeet Singh, 22, is wanted on a warrant for discharging a firearm with intent to endanger life in relation to a March 2026 shooting. Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.Jaskaran Singh, 21, was charged in relation to a March 2026 shooting. He was charged with discharging a firearm with intent to endanger life.Karanbir Singh, 21, was charged in relation to a March 2026 shooting. He was charged with discharging a firearm with intent to endanger life.Amandeep Singh, 21, was charged in relation to the burning of a vehicle that was connected to a previous shooting. He was charged with arson.Anurag Sidhu, 21, was charged in relation to the burning of a vehicle that was connected to a previous shooting. He was charged with arson.Ishandeep Singh, 19, was charged in relation to the burning of a vehicle that was connected to a previous shooting. He was charged with arson.Amandeep Mallhi, 39, was charged in relation to a May 2026 attempted extortion. He was charged with extortion and possession of the proceeds of crime.Sandeep Singh, 32, was charged in relation to a May 2026 attempted extortion. He was charged with extortion and possession of the proceeds of crime.Daksh Gautam, 25, was charged in relation to a planned kidnapping. He was charged with three counts of pointing a firearm and one count each of kidnapping, assault, assault with a weapon, forcible confinement, unauthorized possession of a prohibited/restricted weapon in a motor vehicle and possession of a prohibited/restricted firearm with ammunition.Akashdeep Singh, 19, was charged in relation to a planned kidnapping. He was charged with pointing a firearm, assault, assault with a weapon and forcible confinement.Gagandeep Singh, 29, was charged in relation to a planned kidnapping. He was charged with pointing a firearm, assault, assault with a weapon and forcible confinement.Pardeep Singh, 24, was charged in relation to a planned kidnapping. He was charged with pointing a firearm, assault, assault with a weapon and forcible confinement.Taranveer Singh, 24, was charged in relation to a planned kidnapping. He was charged with three counts of pointing a firearm and one count each of kidnapping, assault, assault with a weapon, forcible confinement, unauthorized possession of a prohibited/restricted weapon in a motor vehicle and possession of a prohibited/restricted firearm with ammunition.Gurkaran Dhaliwal, 21, was charged in relation to a May 2026 shooting. He was charged with discharging a firearm with intent while being reckless, knowing possession of an unlicensed weapon and unauthorized possession of a prohibited/restricted weapon in a motor vehicle.
