Guwahati: Assam’s Class X and XII state board examinations are likely to be pushed back this academic year after floods and the ongoing census exercise disrupted the academic calendar, the Assam State School Education Board (ASSEB) said on Tuesday.ASSEB, which typically conducts the exams from mid-February through March, said Class X classes may continue until Feb 22, 2027, and Class XII classes may run until March 8, indicating a deferment of the board examinations.“This is for information to all concerned that due to recent devastating floods in some of the districts and also due to ongoing process of census activities in the state, there is every likelihood that the course contents of class X and XII will not be completed within first week of February 2027 (in case of class X) and within 28th February (in case of class XII) respectively. Therefore, it is decided that regular classes of class X may continue till 22nd February, 2027 and for class XII those may continue till 8th March, 2027 to complete the course contents,” ASSEB secretary Naranarayan Nath said in a notification.The notification said the schedule of the HSLC examination and HS final examination will be finalised in line with these arrangements.Officials cited prolonged school closures due to severe floods in Sivasagar, Charaideo, Jorhat and Golaghat during July-August, along with the deployment of high school and higher secondary teachers on census duty for nearly a month in August-September, as key reasons for the disruption.ASSEB sources said the board took the decision following extended closures, with state govt approval.In the last state board examinations, around 4.3 lakh students appeared for the Class X exam and more than 3 lakh candidates took the Class XII exam under ASSEB. Board sources said the number of examinees is expected to remain broadly similar this year.
