Ahmedabad: An IIT Gandhinagar (IIT-Gn) research-backed startup won the Boeing Build national finals for developing an AI-powered wearable device. Oreejoy, founded by Prof Uttama Lahiri and others, creates wearable technologies that leverage artificial intelligence for personalised mobility assessment. The venture has secured a Rs 10 lakh grant to advance its cutting-edge wearable tech. The prestigious competition received around 2,000 applications nationwide, from which 28 were shortlisted for the finals and seven were selected for grants across different categories.“At the heart of the startup’s innovation is a smart wearable insole that uses advanced pressure sensing, signal processing and artificial intelligence to analyse walking patterns and assess patient mobility in real time. This innovative platform already uses personalized sensory cues to aid walking in people with Parkinson’s, with tremendous potential for broader neurological rehabilitation applications and gait monitoring,” said officials, highlighting its role in transforming patient care, medical diagnostics, and long-term therapeutic interventions for individuals suffering from complex movement and neurological disorders.
