Kolkata: “Enough is enough,” Calcutta High Court observed on Monday regarding the “nature of complaints” being filed against Trinamool MP Abhishek Banerjee since May 4 and extended the interim protection from coercive action in three FIRs till Nov 30. The court warned of giving blanket protection to Banerjee if the same continued.Three FIRs — two at Bishnupur PS and one at Rabindranagar PS — were filed against Banerjee on July 4, 11 and 23, respectively. Among these, the first two, July 4 (Bishnupur) and July 11 (Rabindranagar), are on Sebaashray camps.The single bench of Justice Saugata Bhattacharyya asked additional advocate general (AAG) Rajdeep Mazumder how any of these complaints were connected to Banerjee. One case was of referral, where the complainant’s wife’s leg had to be amputated at Calcutta National Medical College. Another case was filed by Abhijit Das, who had lost to Banerjee in the election.“Expired medicines (allegedly used in these camps) were seized by the drug controller,” the AAG argued. To this, the judge asked, “Was it prescribed by Banerjee?”When Justice Bhattacharyya questioned Das’s role in filing complaints one after another, the AAG submitted: “He is a whistleblower.” “Why did he not blow the whistle a year ago?” the judge asked.“If any kind of camp is established, permission is required from the authority; no permission was granted,” the AAG said, adding, “As police, our role is to investigate.”Senior advocate Jayanta Narayan Chatterjee, appearing for the complainants, said: “Banerjee has looted Bengal for 15 years. Several other persons are waiting to come before court as they have been looted by this person. Students of medicine have been used. These are super-powerful men.”The judge remarked: “Everybody knows who is super-powerful nowadays.”“You have to directly connect the petitioner. Who was behind organising these camps, how he is directly connected, these are things which need to be looked into and can be disclosed before the court after a thorough enquiry,” Justice Bhattacharyya told the AAG.The judge repeatedly asked if any complaint was made to the West Bengal Medical Council or National Commission regarding Sebaashray camps. “From May 2026, I am hearing these matters. Now, I am fed up. Relying upon Suvendu Adhikari order passed by a coordinate bench, I am going to pass an order. I will pass an order directing not to register any FIR without leave of this court. I have personally gone through three complaints, nothing is directly connected to Banerjee. What is going on? The same person, one after another, is filing a complaint and that person has lost to the petitioner in the parliamentary election,” Justice Bhattacharyya observed.Senior advocate Gopal Shankar Narayan, representing Banerjee, submitted that he went abroad on Sept 3 and is due to return on Sept 22. “The investigating agency concerned is directed to issue notice to the petitioner after 22nd Sept 2026 in terms of leave granted by this court,” the judge directed.
