Gurgaon: In a bid to improve power supply during the summer months, DHBVN has added 24 new feeders to its distribution network in the city between Jan and April. With this, the total number of feeders has increased from 504 to 528.Officials said the move is aimed at reducing outages caused by overloading of the distribution system rather than power shortages. Overloading of feeders has been a key reason for recurring power cuts, voltage fluctuations and tripping in recent years.“The additional feeders will help in load balancing and reduce pressure on existing feeders, leading to a more stable supply,” a DHBVN official said, adding that feeders transmit electricity from substations to residential and commercial areas, and faults in this network can disrupt supply even when adequate power is available at the source. The move comes days after the state power department had directed discoms to replace faulty transformers within two hours in urban areas and four hours in rural areas to minimise disruptions during summer. Discoms have also been asked to maintain transformer banks, keep mobile trolleys ready in each subdivision and submit daily supply reports to the minister’s office.Superintending engineers will be held accountable if outages exceed the prescribed limits. Officials have also been instructed to ensure the timely pruning of trees near 11 kV and 33 kV feeders and arrange transport for the quick movement of transformers, particularly to avoid inconvenience to farmers.
