Panchkula: Panchkula police has issued 3,353 challans for drink driving and impounded 256 vehicles over the past eight months as part of an intensified crackdown on traffic violations across the district.DCP (crime and traffic) Amarinder Singh said traffic teams have been conducting special late-night checking drives on major roads, sensitive stretches and border areas, using breathalysers to detect motorists driving under the influence of alcohol.Police said naka points are frequently shifted to prevent violators from evading checks, while the number of checkpoints has also been increased in recent months.Commissioner of police Pankaj Nain said drink driving remains one of the biggest threats to road safety. “A person driving under the influence does not realise that one mistake can take someone’s son, daughter, parent or loved one away from their family forever,” he said, urging residents to avoid driving after consuming alcohol and discourage friends and relatives from doing so.Police said the enforcement drive will continue to curb reckless driving and reduce road accidents in the district.
