Status: Not ApprovedHEAD: 24_Jai_SIA_SC bailByline: Syed Intishab AliSupreme Court Grants Bail to RAS Officer Hanumana Ram in SI Exam Impersonation CaseTimes News NetworkJAIPUR: The Supreme Court has granted bail to Rajasthan Administrative Service (RAS) officer Hanumana Ram, arrested by the Special Operations Group (SOG), Rajasthan Police, for alleged involvement in an impersonation racket linked to the 2021 Sub-Inspector Recruitment Exam.Hanumana Ram was arrested on April 10, 2025, in connection with an FIR dated March 3, 2024, registered at Police Station SOG, under provisions of the Rajasthan Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 1992, and Sections 66D and 224 of the Information Technology (Amendment) Act, 2008.A division bench of Justice Dipankar Datta and Justice Satish Chandra Sharma noted that charges have not yet been framed, despite cognizance having been taken on June 16, 2025. The court also recorded that the prosecution proposes to examine more than 100 witnesses, indicating the trial is likely to take considerable time. Considering the nature of the allegations and the period of custody already undergone, the bench held that further detention pending trial was not necessary.The Supreme Court set aside the Rajasthan High Court (Jaipur Bench) order dated September 1, 2025, which had dismissed his bail plea.Bail was granted subject to furnishing bail bonds to the satisfaction of the trial court and compliance with conditions imposed by it. The court directed that Hanumana Ram must not directly or indirectly induce, threaten, or promise any person acquainted with the case to prevent disclosure of facts before the court. It further said any breach of bail conditions could lead to cancellation of bail, and directed him to diligently attend trial proceedings unless exempted, warning that unjustified absence may be treated as a breach.The Supreme Court clarified that its observations and the grant of bail are not findings on the merits of the case.
