Noida: In Khora’s maze of congested lanes, where homes have multiplied faster than the infrastructure, the demand for electricity has surged. The strain on the ageing distribution network has meant frequent outages.That could soon change: the state’s power corporation has sanctioned Rs 12 crore to strengthen Khora’s electricity network, raising hopes that the locality’s power cuts may finally become a thing of the past.The plan proposes 70 works, including replacement of old, damaged low-tension cables, installation of new electricity poles and capacity enhancement of overloaded transformers. It also addresses safety concerns in congested neighbourhoods where electricity wires run close to houses.Since many residents continue to depend on submersible pumps in the area, the prolonged power outages have disrupted their functioning, leaving households struggling with water requirements. Long power cuts also exhaust inverter batteries, leaving them without an alternative source of electricity for extended periods.Officials expect the proposed works to improve the capacity and reliability of the distribution network and reduce the frequency of faults and breakdowns.“The tendering process has begun, and once that is completed, an agency will be selected to carry out work on the ground,” said Ajay Yadav, executive engineer, Uttar Pradesh Energy Corporation.
