JAIPUR: A five-year-old girl’s remark that a family acquaintance was “bad” led her family to discover that she had allegedly been raped by him about 15 days ago, following which the accused fled and was arrested from Ramdevra in Jaisalmer, police said on Saturday.The accused, who was known to the family, was arrested after the girl’s grandmother filed a complaint. He was produced before a court on Friday and sent to judicial custody.According to police, the incident occurred around 15 days ago when the accused allegedly assaulted the child after finding her alone.The girl did not tell anyone about the incident as the accused had allegedly threatened to kill her if she disclosed it, news agency PTI reported.Three days ago, the accused came to the family’s house on the pretext of meeting them. The girl was playing with her grandmother when she saw him and remarked, “Uncle is bad.”Police said the grandmother initially dismissed the comment as an innocent remark by a child.The accused allegedly became suspicious that the girl might have revealed something and questioned her about the remark.After he left the house, the girl told her family what had allegedly happened to her. The family then approached the police and lodged a complaint.Police said the accused fled from his home after learning about the complaint.A police team formed under provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act tracked the accused to Ramdevra in Jaisalmer district and arrested him.He was subsequently produced before a court and sent to judicial custody, police said.(With agency inputs)(The victim’s identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
