Kolkata: Ratna Debnath, mother of the RG Kar rape-and-murder victim and BJP MLA from Panihati, on Friday demanded the arrest and questioning of former chief minister Mamata Banerjee, who was also the health minister, and state health principal secretary Narayan Swaroop Nigam as part of the probe into her daughter’s death.“My daughter was raped and murdered inside a hospital while she was on duty. There was a conspiracy to destroy evidence with the involvement of some health department officials. Therefore, the former chief minister and health minister and department principal secretary Narayan Swaroop Nigam should be arrested immediately and questioned,” said Debnath at her MLA office in Sodepur. She claimed that after her daughter’s death, the site at RG Kar Hospital was “deliberately vandalised on Aug 14 to destroy evidence”. “My demand before the health department’s committee is that the health secretary be also brought under investigation,” Debnath added. “Why have they not been brought under investigation until now? Why is he (Nigam) still out of jail?”Debnath also claimed to “reveal” an yet-to-be disclosed incident from the fateful night. Sje said a Group D employee, who had reported for duty that night, fainted on seeing her daughter’s body inside the room. “After changing into his work uniform, he entered the room and saw my daughter lying in that condition. He fainted on seeing her. He was later transferred from RG Kar and is now posted in Arambagh,” she said.Debnath on Wednesday expressed anger and dissatisfaction at the progress of the CBI investigation, alleging the judicial process failed to move forward despite a change in govt. She had claimed she had contested the election, hoping a change in govt would ensure justice for her daughter but she was yet to receive justice.“The govt changed, justice remains elusive. Everything is as clear as water, but the process of delivering justice is not moving forward,” Debnath had said at an event in Barrackpore on Wednesday evening..
