Kolkata: A baby’s hunger made a loco pilot stop at a station out of turn even though the express train was running eight hours late, courtesy a diversion, and was not supposed to make any stop till it reached its destination.The Sealdah-bound Darjeeling Mail stopped at Naihati on Friday as an anxious mother waited for her baby’s milk to be delivered. Naihati was not on the train’s original route but the train had been diverted at Malda due to track subsidence. The woman had expected milk for her child to be delivered by a relative at a station after Malda, but the diversion disrupted those arrangements.The woman had boarded the train at Kishanganj with her infant and was travelling in coach A2, berth 35. After the diversion, the woman called her husband, Azgar Ali, who was in Uttar Pradesh, and told him about the problem. Azgar raised a request through the Rail Madad app, requesting railway authorities to arrange milk for the child.The request was received by the Sealdah commercial control department and brought to the notice of the divisional railway manager. Railway personnel first tried to locate the woman when the train reached Bandel but could not find her.The train was subsequently stopped at Naihati through an emergency signal. Railway staff located the woman there and handed over milk for the infant.Ali later thanked the railway authorities for their prompt response.The Darjeeling Mail reached Sealdah around 1.43 pm on Friday, nearly eight hours behind schedule.
