PCMC clerk held r taking Rs1.20 lakh bribe to reduce property tax

Pune: The state Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), Pune, on Friday arrested a 37-year-old clerk from the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation’s Sangvi property tax department while accepting a bribe of Rs1.20 lakh. An ACB officer said the accused, Umesh Kute of Chikhali, had demanded Rs1.50 lakh from a complainant to reduce his property tax liability from Rs91,000 to Rs50,000.“Kute later agreed to accept Rs1.20 lakh. We laid a trap in Sangvi on Friday afternoon and caught him while accepting the bribe,” the officer said. A case was registered against Kute at the Sangvi police station, the officer said.
