Action against doctor, attendant for demanding Rs 6k for surgery

Lucknow: Deputy chief minister Brajesh Pathak on Thursday ordered an inquiry into reports that a pregnant woman was allegedly taken out of the operation theatre at Ram Sagar Mishra Hospital after her family failed to arrange the Rs 6,000 sought for the procedure.Following the order, the gynaecologist at RSM was attached to Mal CHC and Dr Shaba Afreen of Itaunja CHC was given additional charge of the facility. The OT attendant was dismissed, and divisional surveillance officer Dr Umesh Sachan was appointed inquiry officer.As per reports, Lalla, a resident of Bhawanipur, brought his wife, Dharmi, to the hospital on Wednesday morning. After examination, a caesarean delivery was advised and the woman was shifted to the operation theatre. The family alleged that hospital staff later demanded Rs 6,000 and deferred the surgery when they expressed their inability to pay.The family claimed they were asked to arrange the money by the next day and warned that the patient could otherwise be referred elsewhere. A video of the incident, recorded by relatives, was later circulated on social media.Taking action over the video, Pathak directed health officials to conduct an inquiry and submit a report within a week.
