RU PhD row: Students, panel reach agreement on 9 demands; to meet VC on Sept 5
RU PhD students reach a nine-point agreement with the RU administration Thursday

Jaipur: Rajasthan University PhD students, protesting alleged irregularities in admission process, reached an agreement with the administration on nine points Thursday. The Rajasthan University PhD Admissions (RUPA) committee is set to meet the vice chancellor on Sept 5 to discuss their grievances. The protest was held at the office of RUPA convener Prof S K Gupta.Filling 174 vacant PhD seats, giving priority to JRF-qualified candidates and postponing coursework for admitted students until their grievances are addressed were among the demands. Students also sought publication of subject-wise percentiles and interview scores of all candidates.Post-doctoral fellow Sajjan Saini alleged that 15 students were admitted to the Economics department against 13 seats for unreserved candidates. Students demanded cancellation of admissions made beyond the approved seats. They also alleged similar irregularities in the Psychology and Political Science departments and action in cases of what they termed incorrect admissions.RU vice chancellor Prof Alpana Kateja said, “All decisions are being taken strictly as per rules.”
