Guwahati: A police constable allegedly shot dead two of his colleagues at a patrol camp along the Assam-Meghalaya border in Assam’s Kamrup district early Thursday, following an argument, police said.The incident took place between 4am and 5am at the Gamerimura police patrol camp under Boko police station, said Munna Pachani, OC of Boko police station.The deceased were identified as havildar Fazrul Ali and Indrajit Bora, the in charge of the Gamerimura patrol camp. Both were senior to the accused constable, Chiranjib Choudhury.According to preliminary information, the two personnel suffered gunshot injuries and died after Choudhury allegedly opened fire with an AK-series service rifle.Choudhury, who is attached to the 29th Assam Police Battalion, has been detained and will be arrested after interrogation, the OC said. “However, an investigation has been launched to determine the circumstances that led to the firing and whether there was any dispute or other factor behind the alleged shooting. However, preliminary investigation indicates some arguments among them,” he added.The bodies of the deceased have been sent to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem examination.The firing triggered panic at the police patrol camp and in the surrounding area. Senior police officials reached the spot after being informed of the incident around 6am.Ali was a resident of Sarboga, while Bora hailed from Changshari in Kamrup district. Choudhury is a resident of Dhubri district.The incident has sent shockwaves across Boko and adjoining areas along the Assam-Meghalaya border. It comes nearly a month after a similar episode in Assam’s Nagaon district. On Aug 4, a CRPF jawan allegedly shot dead two colleagues and later died by suicide inside a camp. Another CRPF personnel was injured in the incident.The firing took place around 7am at the 34 Battalion camp in Katimari when assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Ballani Premabaram, who was deployed at the main gate, allegedly opened fire on his colleagues.
