Margao: Two more persons were arrested in connection with the lynching of a labourer in Nuvem on suspicion of theft, taking the total number of arrests to five, even as police have identified seven persons so far as being involved in the assault.Maina-Curtorim PI Kapil Nayak said that based on CCTV footage, five persons were initially identified as having assaulted the victim, of whom three — all residents of Seraulim — were arrested first. Further scrutiny of the footage led to the identification of two more suspects, who were subsequently arrested.“We have so far identified seven persons and arrested five of them. We are continuing to examine the CCTV footage, and as more assailants are identified, we will arrest them too,” Nayak said.He said that the probe into the case was progressing on multiple fronts, including efforts to recover the weapons used in the assault.The deceased has been identified as Rama Suradkar, a resident of Osmanabad, Maharashtra, who was working in the locality as a casual labourer, Nayak said.As reported earlier, Suradkar was allegedly beaten to death by a mob in Nuvem on Thursday evening after he was suspected of stealing a two-wheeler belonging to a local resident from Colva. Maina-Curtorim police had registered a murder case and initially arrested three persons — Greyson Fernandes, Domnic Fernandes and Francis Dias — besides naming a fourth accused and unidentified others in the FIR.
