Gurgaon: Between 2023 and 2025, 10 accidents took place at La Lagune crossing on Golf Course Road.The numbers have prompted the district administration to push for a foot overbridge (FOB) at the accident-prone junction.The proposal was discussed on Wednesday at a meeting of the district road safety committee, where officials reviewed safety measures at black spots and other accident-prone stretches across the city.The La Lagune FOB proposal “would be taken forward” and the required process completed at the earliest, officials said.Several other accident-prone locations were reviewed under the district’s “zero fatality” initiative, including Jharsa Chowk, Atlas Chowk, Iffco Chowk, Sector 33, Khoh-Manaesar, Panchgaon Chowk, Shastri Nagar in Sector 105 and Gopalpur in Sector 10.The administration also directed road agencies to shut unauthorised cuts, improve lighting and road markings, install clearer signage and speed-calming measures and provide safer pedestrian crossings.The meeting, chaired by additional deputy commissioner Sonu Bhatt, also focused on safety around schools, a particularly important concern for parents and pedestrians.Officials said 838 school buses had been inspected till July 22 this year, with 62 challans issued for violations.Checks include CCTV cameras, emergency exits, GPS, first-aid kits, documents and police verification.A joint inspection by traffic police, technical experts, road safety officials and Raahgiri Foundation had identified safety deficiencies at black spots including Sector 31, Fauji Da Dhaba and Panchgaon Chowk.Agencies were asked to implement the recommended fixes within stipulated timelines, with low-cost interventions that can deliver immediate safety benefits to be prioritised.The meeting also reviewed enforcement against dangerous driving. In July, authorities issued 239 challans for overloading, involving penalties of Rs 1.3 crore. Another 249 challans, involving Rs 1.4 crore, were issued between Aug 1 and 30.Action against drunk driving has also remained high. Traffic police issued 13,703 challans for drunk driving till Aug 30 this year and recommended suspension of 1,755 driving licences. The corresponding challan figures were 26,287 in 2024 and 26,305 in 2025.
